GAL receives Cook County Arts Creative Placemaking grant

We’re thrilled to announce that we received a Creative Placemaking grant from @CookCountyArts! This valuable funding will help us install a beautiful nature-themed community mural on Glenview Road. Thank you to Cook County for supporting the arts sector across the suburbs!

The GAL has worked with groups in Glenview – including The Glenview History Center, The Friends of Downtown Glenview, The Glenview Public Library, Greener Glenview, The Grove, and more – to explore and promote public art in the area, as part of our core mission of advancing the study and development of fine art in the community.

Painting of proposed Mural Design
Proposed mural design by artist Anne Farley Gaines.

Artist Anne Farley Gaines shared her experience with community murals at a GAL art demo in 2019. On hearing about the Suburban Creative Placemaking opportunity, we reached out to Anne, and her advice and guidance made our grant application possible. Her beautiful proposed mural design celebrates the natural elements of Glenview, and invites participation from the community. The project is tentatively planned for the west wall of 1723 Glenview Road, home of the Oil Lamp Theater, to be completed by November 2026.

We are honored and inspired to be one of 14 projects awarded Creative Placemaking grants, throughout the Cook County suburbs. For details on our project and those in other communities, visit cookcountyarts.org/creative-placemaking/. Follow Cook County Arts on Instagram. Creative Placemaking grants are supported by Cook County Arts, an initiative of the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development made possible with American Rescue Plan Act funds.

Stay tuned for more details and opportunities to get involved, coming soon!
